RESPONSIBILITIES

POSITION DESCRIPTION: E*TRADE Financial Corporation has openings for Senior Principal Software Engineer positions in Menlo Park, CA and various, unanticipated sites throughout the United States.

Job Duties: Responsible for the technical aspects of designing, implementing, testing E*TRADE Financial Trading, Investing, and core middle office products; lead a technical team to design and implement highly reliable, scalable, extensible, maintainable, global, and operable products and platforms; draft and review architectural diagrams, interface specifications, end-to-end mapping and flow of middle office functionalities and impacts, and other design documents;

build systems that balance resources, constraints, requirements, and complexity; present opportunities with cost/benefit analysis to leadership in order to shape decisions regarding architectural strategy; evangelize technologies, solutions, and best practices developed with the organization; develop department-wide technical perspectives, standards, solutions, and strategies that resolve significant product or organizational pain-points; participate in a network of principal engineers to share ideas, practices, and experiences; work closely with product management and development teams; and mentor other front-end engineers.

REQUIREMENTS

REQUIREMENTS: Employer will accept Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, followed by five years of progressive, post-baccalaureate work experience in job offered or five years of progressive, post-baccalaureate work experience in a related occupation. This position also requires one year of experience with each of the following:

  1. experience in software development domain and principles, including design patterns, code structure, programming languages, continuous integration, and deployment architecture for highly scalable transaction processing systems;
  2. develop software solutions using various languages like C, C++, Java and scripting languages including Perl/Python;
  3. experience with databases and DB tuning, query optimization, and with relational databases including Sybase and Oracle;
  4. design and development of middleware using technologies including Tuxedo and messaging frameworks including Active MQ,IBM MQ, Rabbit MQ;
  5. experience in debugging tools for C, C++ including GDB and profilers including Insure++, Valgrind;
  6. experience with Test driven development and test automation frameworks;
  7. experience working with open source technologies and engaging with the community;
  8. experience with SCRUM or similar agile methodology;
  9. analyzing and building solutions for complex business requirements.

Must be available to work on projects at various, unanticipated sites throughout the United States.
